Ramal Kazimov, born in 1987, is an emerging Azerbaijani artist who works in Baki & Antwerp. He graduated from Azerbaijani State Academy of Arts and Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Belgium.

Ramal got noticed right away by professional critics for his very mature and somewhat dark style. His expressively realist figures immediately and bluntly address imagery and issues that are taboo in Azerbaijan. Using strategies of shock and provocation, the compositions generate the ‘presence’ of the models through both pose and a sinuous and expressive painting technique.

Stylistically echoing the works of Francis Bacon and Edvard Munch, Ramal’s compositions frankly compose a visual diary of human experience through keen observation and an excessive curiosity. The figures are representative of an experimental portraiture that lives on the border between figuration and abstraction.
